Dear Friends in Christ,
“A season is set for everything, a time for every experience under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
We experience a variety of seasons in our lives as individuals and as a faith community. While most often we focus upon the liturgical seasons like Advent and Lent, we also experience practical seasons. We are entering a time of preparation for the coming year which include reflecting upon our gifts of time, talent and resources. Think of this as a season of open arms, allowing the ministries of South Hills Christian Church to embody God’s love and mercy for all the world.
In worship, we have heard a series of speakers, each addressing the important role South Hills Christian Church plays in their lives as well as those in their families. They describe the variety of factors that motivate them to support our church, including through financial giving.
Because we are each blessed with both varied strengths and limitations, giving to South Hills takes on many forms. Of course, one of these is financial, and therefore we ask you to consider making a pledge to the overall stewardship of the church. These funds are needed to pay ministers and staff, cover facility upkeep and maintenance, and support the outreach and other ongoing programs. Pledges are a necessary prerequisite to preparing the budget for the coming year. Fortunately, thanks to the ongoing generosity of our congregation, we are on solid financial footing this year, spending within our means while maintaining active ministries.
These feel like increasingly uncertain times in our state, country and world. In some cases, this uncertainty may impact your personal finances and therefore influence the extent to which you can pledge to South Hills. We therefore respectfully ask that you please talk with your family and prayerfully consider how you will share your gifts with the church this year. Whatever your gift, know that is appreciated and will be used to carry out God’s plan for a more just and humane world.
Please contact our Financial Secretary Janet Swan or Phil Hartman with any questions about this procedure.
We will dedicate our pledge in worship on Nov. 9. Please return your commitment either in person to worship or by email to financialsecretary@shccwfw.org
Blessings,
